About
Steven’s interest in DJing began back in middle school when he arrived at his first school dance. Looking on stage in the multi-purpose room and seeing how the DJs could play different music and control what the crowd did was an intriguing thing to see.
This was a time where the only DJ equipment that existed were turntables and records, which were very expensive for a teenager with a weekly lunch allowance of $10 per week. Steven just listened to the radio mix shows and observed other DJs when he got the chance. Upon graduating high school, Steven reached out to his algebra 2 teacher, who was a DJ for the school, to shadow him at the dances. He eventually learned and got hired on by the company.
DJing at school dances, Steven eventually saved up enough money to buy turntables and speakers to do events on his own.
Steven’s eclectic taste in music started in the 3rd or 4th grade listening to the radio. It was a lot of Hip-Hop on the mainstream stations and Electronic music once a week on a local college station. In middle school, Steven randomly started skateboarding and got into Alternative Rock. There was some weird “Rap vs. Rock” thing going on at the time. Attending the school dances and getting into breakdancing, Steven eventually came back to Hip-Hop. Throughout the years, he slowly listened to different genres and eras, such as Pop and Classic Rock from the 80’s, as well as Doo Wop and Motown.
